About Cessna

Cessna, also known as the Cessna Aircraft Company, was an American general aviation aircraft manufacturer that produced piston-powered aircraft and business jets. The company was founded in 1927, when Clyde Cessna and Victor Roos partnered to form the Cessna-Roos Aircraft Company. A month later, Roos sold his interest back to Cessna and his name was removed from the company. On October 29, 1929, Cessna earned certification for their Cessna DC-6 aircraft model. However, on the exact same day, due to the stock market crash, Cessna was forced to cease operations.

In 1946, Cessna reopened their doors and finally returned to production. With their reopening, Cessna aimed to broaden their horizons, and their first helicopter received FAA type certification in 1955. In the 1960’s, Cessna partnered with French company Reims Aviation, and three years later they produced their 50,000th aircraft. In 1985, the company was purchased by General Dynamics, becoming their subsidiary. Seven years later, General Dynamics sold Cessna to Textron. Cessna then continued operation, and in 2007 they purchased Columbia Aircraft and continued production of the Columbia 350 and 400. During the 2008 financial crisis, Cessna faced restructuring, suspending programs and closing certain facilities. In 2014, Cessna ended their operations and production, becoming a brand of their parent company Textron Aviation.
